"Is Atheism a science-stopper?"

Speaker: Professor Steve Fuller, Professor of Sociology, University of Warwick, specialist in the history and philosophy of science.

Religious faith is often seen as a hindrance to science. But is atheism the real science-stopper? Professor Steve Fuller will argue that ultra-sceptical arguments traceable to David Hume should be buried once and for all.

Steve trained in the history and philosphy of science, and is best know for his work in the field of ‘social epistomology’ - examining philosphical questions about how knowledge is organised. In 2008 he was section president for social policy in the British Association for the Advancement of Science. He has published sixteen books and his work in has been translated into nearly twenty languages. Among his recent books are Science vs Religion (Polity, 2007), Dissent over Descent (Icon, 2008) and The Sociology of Intellectual Life (Sage, 2009).

Staff, students and members of the public are all welcome.
