Flooding Research in China

China suffers from a variety of flooding almost every year, such as urban flooding, flash flooding, dam/dike]break flooding and coastal flooding. Severe flooding events could wreak havoc and huge social, economic and environmental damage.

The Chinese Government has recently implemented a strategic shift in tackling flooding, from flood control toward flood risk management, which necessitates substantially enhanced understanding of the mechanism of the generation and spatial]temporal evolution of flooding, and also viable technology for flood forecasting.

This Lecture presents the latest hydrodynamic research on flash flooding, urban flooding and dam/dike]break flooding, along with its connection with sediment transport. The relevance to the UK Flood Risk Management Research is also addressed.
