Cyber-crime symposium

A wide range of speakers, including Charlie McMurdie, Head of Police Central e-Crime Unit at the Met, and Sir Kevin Tebbit, Chairman of Finmeccanica UK, are to give presentations at a Symposium on Security Risk, Cybercrime and Critical Infrastructure, on Tuesday 6 December 2011. Along with this, on Monday 5 December 2011, there is an opportunity to knowledge exchange, and to look toward funding opportunities.

Scottish Enterprise and Edinburgh Napier University will this December play host to a two-day symposium event on Security Risk, Cybercrime and Critical Infrastructure. This is a free event aimed primarily at knowledge exchange and promoting large-scale opportunities for businesses and academia. There will be opportunities for Meet-the-Buyer/Meet-the-Graduate/Knowledge Exchange/Global Security Challenge on the 5 December 2011, followed by the main Symposium on the 6 December 2011.
The symposium aims to bring together knowledge from many different domains in order to create knowledge exchange and collaborative infrastructures, which address the key risks that Scotland faces. The focus on this symposium is security risk, cybercrime and the protection of critical infrastructure, with a key focus on:
· Collaborative networks within Scotland and links to the EU and the UK.
· knowledge networks related to computer security, cybercrime and in risk analysis.
· Security and Cybercrime risks of the Cloud.
· Training requirements for Scotland related to Computer Security and Cybercrime.
· Emergency response infrastructures, and risk within critical infrastructure.
· Criminal risks and new attack vectors.
· Risks to privacy and identity theft.
· Intelligence-led activities.
