New Chaplain relates science and religion

Rev Dr Alistair Donald brings with him to Heriot-Watt, his knowledge of both science and theology and his interest in the relation of science and faith.

Dr Donald studied Geography at St Andrews University, gained a doctorate in Environmental Science from the University of Wales, and a divinity degree in New Testament from Edinburgh University. He has worked in both Wales and Scotland as an environmental scientist, with involvement in the areas of water pollution and acid rain research.

Dr Donald says:
"I am really looking forward to starting at Heriot-Watt, and to building on the excellent welcoming ministry of the Chaplaincy team. Science and religion are often thought of as outright enemies, but the relation between the two is much more complex and subtle than that."

Dr Donald will join the University on 23 February 2009, but has kindly agreed to take part in the University Anniversary Service on 15 February at Currie Kirk and the Chaplaincy Annual Lecture on 16 February.
