Borders Campus is completed

The £20m campus collaboration project in south east Scotland has been completed.

The Scottish Borders Campus in Galashiels has been designed to share facilities for Borders College and Heriot-Watt University.

The new building took 15 months to complete on a phased basis and is intended to provide a centre for "educational excellence" for students.

Charles McQuilkin, of Archial Architects who carried out the work, said he hoped the building could have a positive effect on the rest of the town.

"The building sits right down in the valley next to the River Gala, alongside Gala Rugby Football Club, and is the most visible location within the town," he said.

"This project has now served as a catalyst for upgrading the surrounding environment to enhance the overall attractiveness of Galashiels."

The work included the complete overhaul of an existing 1960s single storey building and the construction of two large extensions.

In total the new campus can accommodate about 1,500 students.
