Information for Staff and Students
The National Student Survey 2010
The National Student Survey (NSS) at Heriot-Watt is now open. Students who are eligible to participate will be contacted from 25 January by Ipsos MORI. The University strongly encourages our students to complete the survey. Please give us your views on your experience of your time at Heriot-Watt. The survey only takes 5 minutes to complete.
This year will be the University’s fourth year of participation in the NSS, which has become very prominent nationally as a leading indicator of final year undergraduate students’ satisfaction with their experience at university. We are offering three prize draws of Amazon Vouchers (valued at £150, £100 and £50), as an incentive to participate. In addition, we will award a print allocation worth £5.00 to every eligible student in each department which achieves an overall response rate of at least 60%.
The results of the 2009 survey confirmed an overall student satisfaction rate of 81%. We want to do better and feedback from our students lets us know not only what we are doing well, but where we need to improve.
We take students’ feedback through the NSS seriously. We work with our students through staff-student liaison committees to develop NSS action plans to share good practice and to make improvements. We use annual monitoring of NSS results as a key indicator of our performance and our progress. We have improved the student assessment feedback process as a result of previous feedback. Your feedback also helps us to target our investments in accord with our students’ needs, e.g. with better Library access and more study spaces.
Feedback from our students helps us to deliver continued improvement in the student experience at Heriot-Watt University for future generations of students. Heriot-Watt values the views of our students and we encourage everyone in our graduating class to take this opportunity to record their experience of the University.
